To the San people, ostrich eggs symbolized good fortune. In their zero-waste way of life, eggs were foraged, eaten as nutritious food, and used to carry water. Only once broken were the shards made into beads.
The intricate artistry in creating beads from ostrich eggshells. This exquisite bracelet is made by artisans the Ju/’hoan and !Kung San communities in Namibia using the millennia-old technique handed down from their ancestors.
